things are looking good for the future in poker. where i have been and around home the games are starting to pick up much over where they were just a short time ago.

i attribute this to the economy growing and getting stronger. it is a slow process but as money gets freed up it goes to discretionary things like gambling. this means the marginal players who get knocked out easily can win some back and be around to start games and keep them going, rather than firing one barrel and going home.

it is certainly too soon to be sure but time will tell and maybe we wont get a bad turnaround.

it is such a pain having to wade through all the football waiting for the commercials. maybe a way to have a tivo hooked up to fast forward through the game and just watch the commercials.

costco was packed today with cartfulls of junk food going out the door. anyway go giants.

i got a whole bunch of days full of sunshine on the coast of oregon. it is almost never like that. nothing is finer than sunshine in coastal oregon in the winter.

beaches were almost deserted so walking around was wonderful. even found a few floats washed up from the recent storms.

my favorite food stops this trip were the otis cafe and local ocean in newport.

otis is an old time home cooking spot with huge portions and local ocean cooks fresh caught food from the local docks.

the drive down the coast is always a high light with so many good sights to see and places to look into.

played at muckelshoot casino. games were certainly good but not great. overall happy with them. they seemed to have 3,5 and 5,5 no limit as their biggest games and some 5,5 omaha. didnt get in the omaha as the lists were too long but the no limit games had enough action to please any good player.

a bunch of the locals went to spokane this weekend to play in their big tournament. they add like 50 grand to the prize fund. so it really is great value.

may not be worth it if you are far away as you have to factor in costs of travel and rooms but it is an easy tourny without lots of champs there.

we have had some players from around here split it a few times or get major pieces. so thats good.

the northwest coast is supposed to get some mega winds in the next day or so from the big storms coming through.

this is as good as it gets for storm watching along the beaches where there are rocky areas. oregon is perfect for this. once in a lifetime thing if you havent experienced it.

i would be heading over expect all the passes are getting blasted with snow. might get a foot or so in hte valley. but high up it will be in lots of feet.

a great time to be in oregon to play cards at the casinos or washington.

for a beach comer you get to find tons of floats and things of all sorts on the beaches, especially if you are first there when the tide goes out.

the pacific northwest is getting a cold wave and rain and snow all over. that makes it a good time to play poker. always when the weather is less than steelar people go inside and gamble. there is less outside things to do and places to go.

it is usually best to play when the games are good, rather than you want to play. doesnt that make sense?

ive always found rainy days the prime time.

my pond is wonderful as it hasnt snowed yet and the ice is perfect for skating.

the ski resorts around are hurting bad as not many out of town people are coming by. no reason to come here with the lack of snow. sometimes you have to take the good years with the bad.

since i have not skied in a few years now i dont have the desire for the big snow falls and what goes with them.

we have real life people here that run the card games. they listen to the players and implement some of the ideas they get.

most also dont act like they control the players but the players are part of their business. that keeps the players feeling good and no hostilities between players and house.

a fun place to play is what it is all about.

it is amazing that it is january and there is not a drop of snow on the ground here in western montana. so much for guessing whether the climate is changing. i am loving it but also fearful of what happens to trees and such that dont get to benefit from the insulating snow cover that they need when the temps plunge. i will see when spring comes what has transpired.
