Gaurd Against Dishonest Casual Conversation

In recent days I have encounterd personal aggravations that I realize stems from the fact that most people go to too great a length to make their conversation pleasant. The two best examples involve promises that probably won’t be kept and badmouthing other people. Are you guilty of these things? Do you say you will do something that you know you probably won’t, just to keep a conversation from becoming awkward? Even when you suspect that the other person expects you to keep that promise? What about acquiescing to criticism of a third person when you actually have no problem with that person? Because defending him or her will result in a less than peasant present conversation. Does it occur to you that your acquiensence might get back to them? Think about it.
