That JG Wentworth commercial with all those strange people singing on the bus sure is catchy isn’t it? But it makes two thoughts pop into my head.
1. They are wasting a lot of money paying to reach people who are usually not eligible for their service. They pay a lump sum to people who for one reason or another are getting a steady stream of checks (I don’t think that includes Social Security opensions where they continue until death).
2. If they can afford to be this inefficient in reaching their market, imagine how much they are ripping their customers off, mathematically speaking. I’m thinking that they can get away with that partially because they have so little competition, partially because they are preying on desperateness and partially because most people don’t understand the underlying math.

Not that I didn’t try to do the same thing as I relate in DUCY.
